Tree-Free Paper Initiative
In 2005, Ripple Effect began an environmental awareness initiative to fund and promote the use
of tree-free (100% post-consumer waste) paper when printing Wordscapes
and other publishing projects. Independent environmental audits provided
by the book printers demonstrate the
tangible benefits to the environment of using tree-free paper. This
information is also included in the front pages of each book.
The
Tree-free Paper Initiative has supported five publishing projects to date. The
cumulative measurable environmental benefits of using 100%
post-consumer waste paper for these projects include:
Trees
Saved: 27
Water
Saved: 23,225 litres
Solid
Waste Reduced (landfill):
793 kilograms
Energy
Saved: 24.2 million BTUs
Greenhouse Gas Emissions Reduced:
1251 kilograms
