~ Wordscapes Youth Arts Journal Launch 7pm, April 24th, 2008 Montmartre Cafe 4362 Main Street, Vancouver, British Columbia
The new Wordscapes Youth Arts Journal was launched in April 2008 in Vancouver during BC Book and Magazine Week celebrations. Hosted by acclaimed slam poets Brendan McLeod and Barbara Adler, the evening featured performances by a dozen talented teens reading their poems, short stories and essays published in the first two issues of the journal. Youth from schools all over the Lower Mainland and Victoria read, including; Lowell Fleming, Sarah Andersen, Jasmine Hendriks, Rachel Goddard-Rebstein, Keith Gaudry-Gardner, Sarah Vitet, Jessica Knowles, Rena Zhou, Lisa Liu, Emily Perkins, Charlotte McGee, Diandra Barsalou, Laura Thorne, and local author Michael Hetherington also made a special appearance.
Thanks to everyone who attended and volunteered to make this a memorable inaugural launch for the Wordscapes Youth Arts Journal, including the Montmartre Cafe staff, the REAL Society board, Petrice Brett, David Ellison, Gene Derreth, and a special thanks to Terence Young for bringing his students from Victoria.
